G.R.A.C.E
A different kind of T.U.L.I.P
The scripture verses used below are not all the verses that speak on this topic. Just a few to help explain it. So much more of Holy Scripture contains these doctrines.
Grave Condition
Grave Condition is exactly what it sounds like. It means that every part of human nature is affected by sin as a result of the Fall. Humans are spiritually dead and incapable of seeking God or doing anything to merit salvation on their own. Scriptures like Romans 3:10-12 ("None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God...") highlight this condition.
Redemption Planned
This emphasizes that God's choice to save certain individuals was made before the foundation of the world, based on His sovereign will and purpose, not on any foreseen faith or merit in the individual. Ephesians 1:4-5 says, "He chose us in him before the foundation of the world... In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will."
Atonement Accomplished
Christ’s atoning work on the cross was intended to save the elect specifically and fully. It is effective and sufficient for those God has chosen. John 10:14-15: "I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me... and I lay down my life for the sheep."
Calling Irresistible
When God calls His elect, He effectively brings them to faith in Christ. This call is irresistible, meaning it will not be thwarted by human resistance. John 6:37: "All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out."
Eternal Security
Those whom God has saved will persevere in their faith until the end. This doctrine ensures the eternal security of believers, as their salvation is maintained by God's power, not their own efforts. Philippians 1:6: "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."
To sum it all up:
- Grave Condition: Humanity’s total depravity.
- Redemption Planned: God's sovereign election.
- Atonement Accomplished: Christ’s definite atonement for the elect.
- Calling Irresistible: God's effectual call.
- Eternal Security: Perseverance of the saints.
Each point underscores the sovereignty and grace of God in the work of salvation. It's a beautifully interconnected framework that highlights God's initiative and sustaining power in the redemption of His people.
